MONUMENTS AND MARKETSBab (gate) Boujloud This building in Morish style is the main gate to the old medina of Fes. It is dated from 1913. You should especiallywatch the rich decorations of flowers, Arabic typography and geometrical forms in oerfect symmetry. Talaa (street) Kebira and talaa Seghira These two streets lead right through the heart of the medina. Guerniz (where you find Chez Khadija) connects directly to the talaa Seghira. By this road it is easy to find your way back to our house. Le Fondouk el- Nejjarine The woodcarving museum It was built in the eighteenth century by Adeyel. In this time food and shelter was given to traders in luxurious goods. The Fondouk is on the UNESCO world heritage list. The Henna souk There arte many small markets hidden in the medina of Fes. These so called souks all have their own speciality and are well worth visiting. Wood, leather, copper, herbs, are all refined and traded here. |
